Welcome ! Shadowood II, Inc. is a structured group home for homeless men and women who are living with HIV/AIDS and various life threatening illnesses. We are currently the only facility in Broward County Florida which is dedicated to exclusively serving the indigent HIV/AIDS population. Shadowood II proudly carries the nickname of the "gatekeeper of the streets." The program is unique in that Shadowood II can get a person off the streets (regardless of income) and into care, when space is available, within two hours of stated need. Few programs have the skills, facility and professional staff necessary to assist this population.
Accredited for excellence and professional standards by
Broward County, Florida, Shadowood II has assisted
over 5,000 men and women since 1994. These men and
women have been homeless and challenged by HIV/AIDS
and illnesses that place their lives at risk.

A message from our Executive Director
This has been a pivotal year for Shadowood II, Inc. There have been a number of ‘firsts’ this year such as new client service programs, new N/A A/A, Life Management classes as well as the launch of our first website: www.shadowoodII.org A new computerized client information system has been installed. Additionally, this is the first year that Shadowood II has been showcased in a number of positive news articles (Sun Sentinel, Miami Herald and smaller independent newspapers.) Shadowood II, Inc. was proclaimed the “Miracle on Fifth Street” by the Independent News which received much positive response.
2007 also brought our new Bowling League that started monthly fundraisers. The ‘First Annual Holiday Kick-Off fundraiser was another new event. This was the second year of the ‘Girls Nite Out’ fundraiser at the Schubert Resort, all have been resounding successes. Our annual Easter Bonnet fundraiser and the Golf Tournament in Michigan have wonderfully continued to support our programs.
All wonderful news, however we have faced other challenges. We were forced to remove two buildings from our property. We can no longer count on accessing the various food banks for food for our clients. We were unable to secure all the federal funding required to adequately fund our programs. Now as I write this letter we have not received any federal dollars since September 2007 and may not see any money until the end of the year.
Still and all we are positive about the future. More than 40% of this year’s residents have moved onto independent living thus breaking the cycle of homelessness. Our ‘Road to Independence’ program has now placed 6 individuals into new offsite living under Shadowood II programs and guidance. More than 400 lives this year have been improved, lives have been saved, all because of your help .
During this season when we all take stock of what we have to be thankful for, Shadowood II is thankful to have such good friends as you, who have in the past helped our organization. During this season when you are thinking about those less fortunate than ourselves, we hope that you’ll keep the homeless HIV/AIDS individual in your gift giving plans. Your tax deductible gift to Shadowood II goes directly to serve those who are the poorest of the poor and the neediest of the needy and unfortunately are often the ones most forgotten. On behalf of the 56 individuals who look to Shadowood II for their basic living essentials we wish you all the best during this holiday season and in the coming new year,
Ken Fountaine, Executive Director, Shadowood II, Inc. (December 2007)
